Band Sealers

Continuous band sealers seal bags while they move through the machine on a running band, so one operator can seal many more bags per hour than with a foot sealer. We carry AIE tabletop, stainless steel and heavy-duty floor band sealers in horizontal and vertical versions, with embossing or hot stamp coding.

How to Choose a Band Sealer

A band sealer, also called a continuous sealer, carries the open end of the bag between two moving bands past a heating block, a cooling block and an optional embossing or printing wheel. The bag comes out sealed, and the next one follows without a pause. That makes band sealers the step up when foot or tabletop sealers can no longer keep up.

Horizontal or vertical

Horizontal band sealers such as the AIE 881BS seal bags that lie flat or are fed by hand, for example snack bags, header bags and light products. Vertical band sealers such as the AIE 882BS seal bags while they stand on a conveyor, which keeps liquids, powders and grains away from the seal. The AIE B6 Series comes in both versions.

Tabletop or floor model

Tabletop band sealers fit on a bench and suit small production rooms. Floor models on a stand, such as the AIE-B7202 on its rolling stand, take bags of almost any size and length and let you raise, lower and tilt the conveyor and sealing head. The AIE-883BS is the 881BS on a stand for freestanding use.

Speed and temperature

Band sealers combine conveyor speed and sealing temperature: thicker film needs more heat or a slower belt. AIE lists 0–50 ft/min for the B6 Series, 0–40 ft/min for the 881BS and 882BS, and up to 30 ft/min for the heavy-duty B7202. Temperature ranges are 0–750 °F (B6, B7202) and 0–572 °F (881BS, 882BS).

Material thickness

Check the thickest bag you will seal. AIE lists up to 20 mil for the 881BS and 882BS and up to 20 mm for the B6 and B7202 per its feature lists. Laminated and gusseted bags often need a slower speed and more heat than plain PE bags.

Coding on the seal

Many food and retail products need a date or lot number on the pack. The B6 Series includes an adjustable embossing wheel, and a printing wheel is optional. The 881BS and 882BS can emboss batch numbers or expiration dates. The B7202 has a hot stamp imprinter that prints codes with each seal.

Feed direction and stainless steel

Choose the feed direction that matches your line: the 881BS and 882BS are available left to right or right to left. Stainless steel models are easier to clean and suit food production areas.

Typical applications

Food producers seal snack, candy, coffee and dry goods bags at line speed. Powder and grain packers use vertical band sealers after a filler, so bags move upright from filling to sealing. Retail and e-commerce packers seal product bags and header bags in large numbers. Pet food, seed and fertilizer producers use heavy-duty models such as the B7202 for large bags that need a printed code.

Setup and running costs

Plan a stable table or floor space with room for an infeed and outfeed area. A standard outlet is enough for the AIE models listed here. Running costs are mainly sealing bands, heater elements and, for coding, type sets and print tape.

When a band sealer is the right step

If your operators seal bags all day on foot sealers, or if bags are filled on a conveyor, a band sealer usually pays off in time saved. If you seal mixed sizes in small numbers, a foot sealer remains the simpler choice. For thick foil bags at low volume, a constant heat sealer may also fit.

Band Sealers FAQ

How does a band sealer work?

Two moving bands grip the open end of the bag and carry it past a heated block, which melts the film, and a cooling block, which sets the seal. An embossing or printing wheel can add a code. The bag leaves the machine sealed, and the next bag follows right behind it without stopping.

Should I choose a horizontal or a vertical band sealer?

Choose a horizontal model for bags that lie flat or are fed by hand, such as snack and header bags. Choose a vertical model for bags that should stand upright, such as liquids, powders, grains and heavy bags on a conveyor. AIE offers the B6 Series in both versions.

Can a band sealer print dates on the seal?

Yes. The AIE B6 includes an embossing wheel, and a printing wheel and type are optional. The AIE 881BS and 882BS can emboss batch numbers or expiration dates. The heavy-duty AIE-B7202 has a hot stamp imprinter that prints codes with every seal.

Which bag materials can a band sealer seal?

Band sealers seal most thermoplastic bags, including PE, PP and many laminated and foil bags. Thicker or laminated material needs more heat or a slower belt. Check the maximum material thickness listed for each model, and test your bag when you set up the machine.

What maintenance does a band sealer need?

The sealing bands, heater elements and conveyor belt are wear parts. AIE includes spare bands and heater tubes with the B7202 and a repair kit with the B6 Series. Keep the heating and cooling blocks clean and replace bands when they show wear or the seal quality drops.
