How to Choose a Film Wrapper or Cup Sealer
Both machines in this collection seal food for sale or transport, but they work in different ways. A film wrapper pulls stretch film over a tray and seals it underneath on a hot plate. A cup sealer presses a film lid onto the rim of a drink cup and seals it with heat.
Film wrapping machines
The Omcan 14428 holds one roll of stretch film up to 18″ (45.7 cm) wide; the Omcan 14430 holds two rolls, so you can keep a narrow and a wide film ready at the same time. Both have a solid-state controlled hot-rod cut-off bar and a 6″ × 15″ hot plate with a non-stick cover and a Hi/Lo setting.
The operator places the tray on the film, pulls the film over it, cuts it on the hot rod and folds the ends underneath, where the hot plate seals them. The result is a tight, clear wrap that shows the product.
One roll or two
One roll is enough if your trays are similar in size. Two rolls make sense when you wrap small and large trays through the day, because changing a roll interrupts the work. The two-roll 14430 is taller and heavier: 43 lb against 30 lb for the 14428.
Film
Film is not included with the wrappers. Use a stretch film made for food wrapping in a width that matches your trays; both Omcan wrappers take rolls up to 18″ wide.
Cup sealing machines
The Omcan 44644 seals drink cups automatically with a film lid. It takes 3.7″ (95 mm) cups and comes with an extra ring for 3.5″ (90 mm) cups. Omcan rates it for paper, PP, PE and PLA cups. Omcan names juice bars, bubble tea outlets, cafés and beer bars as typical users, because sealed cups stay spill-free in delivery bags.
Check your cup size before ordering: the sealer works with the cup diameters listed above. The sealing film (Omcan item 47486, 2,000 cups per roll) is sold separately. Our guide Cup Sealing Machines: Manual, Semi-Automatic and Automatic explains the different machine types.
Power and space
All three machines run on standard 110–120 V power, so no electrician is needed for the connection. The wrappers are counter units with rubber feet; the cup sealer measures 12.8″ × 13.8″ × 23.3″ and weighs 55.1 lb, so plan a sturdy spot near the drink station.
Typical users
Butcher and seafood departments wrap cuts on foam trays for self-service cases. Produce departments wrap fruit, vegetables and salad trays. Delis and bakeries cover trays of sliced goods and pastries. Restaurants and caterers cover platters and prepped food before storage. On the drinks side, bubble tea shops, juice bars and cafés seal cups so drinks can be shaken, pierced with a straw and delivered without spills.
Choosing between wrapping and vacuum packing
Film wrapping shows the product and keeps it clean on the shelf for daily sale. Vacuum packing removes the air and suits longer storage, sous-vide cooking and freezing. Many butchers and delis use both: a film wrapper for the display case and a chamber vacuum sealer for portions that are stored or frozen.
Cleaning and daily use
The wrappers have an all-stainless wrapping surface that is quick to wipe down between products. Keep the hot plate cover clean, because film residue on the plate affects the seal and the look of the pack. On the cup sealer, keep the sealing area free of spilled drinks and sugar residue.
